(1) Researchers are not allowed to take their own photographs
of Library material.
(2) The National Library provides a photographic service
at a charge of €5.82 per volume and €0.23 per
page.
(3) Requests for the photographing of Library material
are to be made in writing by filling in the form available
at the attendants’ desk. In the application one is
requested to indicate the pages/folios required and to
state whether the photos are intended for private research
or for publication.
(4) It is not allowed to order photos
of entire books or manuscripts.
(5) If the material is
published, acknowledgement is to be made to the National
Library.
(6) In cases of book publications or tv documentaries
where one wishes to bring a professional photographer
to take
the photos or to film, one must submit a detailed
request in writing to the Director. The National Library
does
not provide filming service.
(7) It is the prerogative
of the Director to decide where, when and in which physical
conditions photographing
or
filming at the Library take place.
(8) If the request
is granted, an agreement is signed between both parties
whereby the person/s
making
the request is/are
obliged to abide by the conditions laid down
by the Library with regard to photographing or filming,
that is:
a. Ownership of all photography and images taken
vest solely and exclusively with the National Library
of Malta;
b. The phrase: © National Library
of Malta will accompany the images;
c. Photos are to be taken without flash and filming
with soft artifical light;
d. Acknowledgement is to be made to the Director,
National Library of Malta;
e. Two (2) free copies of the publication are to
be given to the National Library, apart from the
usual legal deposit;
f. A copy of the images/films in CD/DVD format are
to be deposited at the National Library; |

A nominal fee is charged, depending on the extent of
the request.
(9) The Director reserves the right to refuse requests
both for photography and filming.
